Economic Quantification of Environmental Impacts in Health Technology Assessment
Abstract
The study addresses the issue of environmental sustainability in healthcare systems, analyzing the growing role of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in integrating environmental impacts into the evaluation of healthcare technologies.
Through a structured review of recent scientific literature and major practical experiences, the work examines methodologies and tools used to measure and economically quantify the environmental footprint of healthcare technologies, including emissions, resource consumption, and waste generation.
The study analyzes established approaches such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), monetization tools such as the Social Cost of Carbon (SCC), and integrated models that link environmental impacts to health outcomes (DALYs, QALYs) or incorporate them into multidimensional decision-making frameworks.
